Jonas Harnish, 63, of 4425 Benton St. NE, died Sunday, July 10, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, following an extended illness. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Del Bear. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife of forty-five years, Jean; four children, Jeff (Sue) Harnish of Toledo, Jacqueline of Davenport, Julie (Rod) Mochal of Cedar Rapids and Janet (Ken) Durscher of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Darlene Harnish of Coralville; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Harnish of Anamosa; ten grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lynton Harnish.
Jonas was born November 10, 1941, the son of Orville and Opal (Bacon) Harnish in Ryan. He attended school in Hopkinton and on September 11, 1959, Jonas married Jean Gaddie there. Jonas worked for many years in area lumberyards, then for twenty years at Overhead Door. He then managed Sovern Door Company, and after fifteen years, he retired from J & J Door Repair, which he owned and operated. Jonas was a member of Ironworkers Local #89 of Cedar Rapids.
Jonas loved fishing, woodworking, children and grandchildren. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
