Jon was born in Savannah, Georgia, on March 3, 1953, to Woodrow Wilson Moss and Ruby Hazel (Helms) Moss. He graduated from Satellite High School (Satellite Beach, Florida) in 1972. In 1976, Jon received a BA in Theology with a minor in Christian Education from Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, being the first in his family to obtain a college degree. In Florida, he served as an Assembly of God licensed minister at churches in Clermont, Orlando, and Melbourne before leaving the denomination.

Jon worked for Rockwell Collins for 31 years, developing and maintaining close friendships with many of his colleagues across the country. During his time at the Melbourne facility, he served as president of the Space Coast Chapter of APICS, and on the Region V Board of Directors. He also served as President of the Space Coast Chapter of Toastmasters, an organization which helps people develop communication skills. Having become an expert at Rockwell in the field of obsolescence, Jon moved to the Cedar Rapids Iowa headquarters in 1998. He worked on many vital projects, and one of the highlights of his career was receiving a letter of thanks from the U.S. military after making a tireless effort to obtain obsolete replacement parts to keep helicopters in the air, vital to the mission of rescuing and protecting ground troops during Desert Storm.

In 2000, Jon was appointed as a part-time licensed local pastor with the United Methodist Church. After taking early retirement from Rockwell in 2008, Jon was appointed full-time and worked toward completing a Master of Divinity from Dubuque Theological Seminary in 2012. In 2015, he was ordained as an elder in full connection. He served on various boards, including the Walk to Emmaus and the Board of Ordained Ministry. Jon served at Martelle UMC, Marion Methodist, and most recently a dual charge at Alburnett and Prairie Chapel, retiring June 30, 2023. Jon considered it a sacred honor to share the joys and help bear the burden of sorrows and private confidences for those he served.

Jon had many professional accomplishments both at Rockwell and during his ministry and had a great love for his family and friends. He enjoyed watching movies and cooking shows, attending musical events, game nights, weather watching, and sharing meals with his family. His chili, spaghetti sauce, and grilling will be missed. He enjoyed and shared many hobbies with his family and friends, including photography, history, baseball, and football. He could always be counted on for a witty response, laughter, and a song in his heart, as well as a shoulder to lean on. Jon was a man who loved life and the people in his life. His presence will be greatly missed.

Jon is survived by his wife of almost 49 years, Sharon Moss, and two daughters, Angela and Sarah.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.
