Johnny L. Rudish, 70, of Anamosa, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023, on Veteran’s Day at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 12 – 1:30 p.m. on Friday, November 17, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa, with service to follow. There will be full military honors by Anamosa American Legion and The United States Navy Honors Detail. Burial will be at a later date.

Johnny was born on August 25, 1953, in Springville, Iowa, the son of Peter A and Zona (Robison) Rudish. He was a 1972 graduate of Springville High School and then graduated from Kirkwood Community College. Johnny enlisted in the United States Navy and was assigned to the USS Ticonderoga an Aircraft Carrier from October to November of 1973. They were in American Samoa waters in December 1972 for the recovery of the Apollo 17. They also recovered the Skylab II in June of 1973. He was then assigned to the Destroyer USS Vogelgesang from 1973 to 1975. It was at that time he met his future wife. Johnny met his wife, Patty, while serving with her brother, Tom Richardson. They eloped in Galena, Illinois in 2017, after reuniting after 40 years. 20 years earlier Johnny names his dog Patty, to everyone’s surprise. Johnny worked in construction after returning home. He was a heavy equipment operator as he loved to play in the dirt. After Johnny moved Patty here from Florida, he took an early retirement on disability. Patty took an early retirement also and they enjoyed life as much as possible. Johnny will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Johnny is survived and lovingly remembered by the love of his life, Patty; twin sister, Connie (Steve) Luker of Anamosa; sister, Andrea (Kelly) Stick of North Carolina; brother, Michael (Tracy) Rudish of Whittier; and sister-in-law, Joyce (Pete) Rudish, Gary (Jan) Schuch, and Joe Svoboda (Jackie).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Zona; sisters, Janice Schuch, Penny Gustoff, and Jackie Svoboda; and brother, Peter Rudish Jr.
