John H. Yanda, 82, of Anamosa, formerly of Springville, died Sunday, February 1, 2015, at Mercy Hallmar. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Springville by Father John R. Flaherty. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion and one hour prior to the mass at the church. Burial: Springville Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by Springville American Legion Post #331.

Survivors include his wife, Lavonne of Anamosa; two sons, Wayne Yanda of Anamosa and Gary Yanda of Fairfax; a sister, Delores Johnson of Alburnett; a brother, G. George (Judy) Yanda of San Jose, California; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dog, Peanut.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Keith Johnson.

John was born June 10, 1932, the son of Henry and Julia (Popelka) Yanda in Cedar Rapids. On May 24, 1969, he married Lavonne Andersen at Stone City. He graduated from Viola High School. John was a lifetime farmer, retiring in 2001. He also worked for the city of Springville for 16 years, retiring in 1997. John was an avid gardener in his retirement years.

John served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was very grateful for the opportunity to go on the April 2014 Honor Flight with his son Gary (U.S. Marine Corps).

He was a member of Springville American Legion Post #331 for over 50 years, and enjoyed the Linn Co-Op Coffee Club.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in memory of John.
