John J. Wheeler, 78, of 401 31st Street NW, died Friday, December 19, 2003, in his home following a long illness. Memorial Services: 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 29, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Bill Harnish.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy; three sons, Richard Wheeler and wife Rose of Amana, Ron Wheeler and wife Virginia and John Wheeler, all of Atlanta; two daughters, Deb Michel and husband Dan of Atlanta, and Gayle Beary and husband Jeff of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Raymond Wheeler of Somers, Wisconsin; two sisters, Barbara Matthes and Dorothy Grendler, both of Cedar Rapids; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John was born June 20, 1925, in Eldora, Iowa. On December 21, 1990, he married Nancy Griffin in Cedar Rapids. He served with the United States Navy. John retired from Iowa Manufacturing after 43 years of service. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, the Eagles Club, the VFW and the American Legion Hanford Post #5.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of John.
