John E. Weiland, 76, 2409 Deborah Dr. SW, Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, January 21, 2004, in his home, following a short illness. Prayer Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Karl Glovik. Friends may call from 9 - 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, at a later date.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Ann; his children, Chris (Jeff) Hora of Tempe, Arizona, and Tom (Patty) Weiland of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Katie Hemann and Kurtis Hemann; and three great-grandchildren, Xavier, Johnathon and Jacob.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Tim; and a brother, Don.
John was born July 2, 1927, the son of John and Jane (Windsor) Weiland, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. On May 23, 1950, John was united in marriage to Ann Hasek, at St. Ludmila?s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. For 26 years, he worked as a U.S. Postal Carrier, retiring in 1986. John was a member of the VFW 788. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
