John R. “Jack” Tucker, 82, a resident of the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, died there Thursday, February 26, 2009, following a lengthy illness. Services: 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at St. Pius Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids by Father Dennis Cahill. The family will greet friends from 5 - 8 p.m., Monday, March 2, 2009 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Military Rites provided by American Legion Wapsie Post 421, Central City.

Survivors include his children, Rick Tucker of Cedar Rapids, and Nancy (Rev. Dan) Paul of Stafford, VA; 5 grandchildren, Carol Ann (SFC Richard) Locke, Michael Paul, Christina Paul, Danielle Paul, and Danny Paul, and 3 great-grandchildren, Mayleigh, Ricky, and Mary Grace; and a very special friend, Delores Finnegan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Edmond Tucker.

John was born April 27, 1926, the son of John and Ruth (Ralston) Tucker, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from McKinnley High School in 1943. He was a WW II Army Veteran as a Master Paratrooper in the 13th Airborne Division and a member of the American Legion. “Jack” retired in 1987 from Cedarapids Inc. (Iowa Manufacturing Company) after 40 years of service as a manufacturing superintendent. He was very knowledgeable in nature, an avid outdoorsman and especially loved hunting and fishing. “Jack” will be remembered for his love for his children and grandchildren. He always encouraged them and was very proud of their accomplishments. “Jack” was a “people person.” He loved being with his family and friends. He had a friendly, outgoing personality, a wonderful smile and a warm handshake or hug for everyone he met. “Jack” had a positive attitude. He had a special love for all children. Seeing a small child would always bring a smile and joy to his day. He loved all kinds of music, especially opera. “Jack” will remain in the hearts and memories of all who knew and loved him.
