John "Jack? Martin Taylor, 84, of 390 8th Ave., Marion, went to find peace on Wednesday, January 15, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center, following a brief illness. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, January 18, 2003, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion by Father John Gossman. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion where a parish vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. and military rites will be performed by American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Jack was born on Nov. 4, 1918, the only child of M. Clyde and Leone (Jeuck) Taylor, in Marion, Iowa. Jack graduated from Marion High School in 1938. He served as an airplane engine mechanic in the Army Air Corps from Sept. 1942 until Jan. 1946. He married Madonna Zubrod at Immaculate Conception Church in Cedar Rapids on August 17, 1946. They have been members of St. Joseph?s Church in Marion since 1947. He retired as a machinist from Rockwell Collins in Dec. 1981, after 20 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant grandson, Anthony Strunk.
Jack is survived by his wife of 56 years, Donna; two daughters, Anne (Ray) Schmidt and Mary Taylor of Marion; and two sons, John (Karlene) Taylor of Cedar Rapids, and Joe (Daveeta) Taylor of Marion.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren; Lisa Hofmeister and Lora (Eric) Thomsen, Angela (Andrew) Naylor and Victoria (Jeff) Campbell, Scott Taylor, Keegan Strunk and Winona Buffalo Shoulders; and five great-grandchildren; Danny, Alex and Tristan Hofmeister, Madelyn Campbell, and Michael Taylor; four step-grandchildren, Brett (Angela) Karasek, Tami (Darryl) Hill, Joe (Dana) Karasek and Robyn (Steve) Kricun; and five step-great-grandchildren, Andy and Hannah Karasek, Natasha and Nathan Hill, and Kennedy Karasek.
Jack loved to visit with people and his many interests included trains (real and model), suped-up cars, target shooting, and riding his motorcycle (until he was 80!)
