John Joseph Ross

John Joseph Ross, 52 of Waverly, Iowa, passed away on July 20, 2013 after a long battle with liver disease. Memorial Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013, at the Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
John was born on March 16, 1961 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of John “Clark” and Joanie (Hadrava) Ross. John worked in the construction field for most of his life. He loved his work and was very proud of his accomplishments. Many of his construction projects let his creativity and artistic flair shine through.
John loved to put a smile on people’s faces and he loved to joke around. Some of his favorites included hunting, fishing, carpentry and motorcycle riding, helping animals and people, and watching Iowa Hawkeye and Packers football. He treasured spending time with his family and friends and his German Shepherds.
John is survived by his life partner, Lisa Slocum and her son Chase Slocum both of Waverly; his daughter, StarLeigh Morrow (Aaron Griffin) of Cedar Rapids; his step-daughter, Kathy Johnson of Vinton; parents , John “Clark” and Joanie Ross of Waterloo; brothers, Edwin (Nancy) Ross of Waterloo and Earl (Dawn) Ross of Hudson; sister, Beth (Josh) Dunkel of Center Point; granddaughter, Ayla; step-grandsons, Cory, Kyle, Clayton and Tanner; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Irma Hadrava; and his paternal grandparents, John and Dorothy Ross.
