John C. Rausch, 60, of Toddville, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly from Covid on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, with a Parish Vigil Service starting at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 31, 2021, at the funeral home, with Deacon Dennis Mulherin officiating. Burial will follow at Dunkard Cemetery in Midway, Iowa.
John was born on October 15, 1961, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of William Joseph and Phyllis Marie (Holub) Rausch. He was a 1980 graduate of Regis High School. On May 11, 2001, John was united in marriage to Erica M. Pierce in Las Vegas, Nevada. To this union, five children were born. John and Erica later divorced. He was self-employed in construction for many years. John also owned and operated several businesses including John Rausch Construction Company, Red Leaf Brick & Stone, and Midwest Mushrooms. John was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hiawatha, Iowa. He loved to be outside, hunting and fishing. John enjoyed the outdoors, but most of all, he loved spending time with his children and their friends hanging out, swimming, going on bike rides and doing many more activities. John will forever be missed by all who knew and loved him.
John is survived and lovingly remembered by his five children, Chloe Rausch, Caleb Rausch, Josie Rausch, Jacob Rausch, and Charli Rausch, all of Robins, Iowa; their mother and his former wife, Erica Rausch of Robins; mother, Phyllis Rausch of Marion; four siblings, Jeff (Toni) Rausch of Marion, Cherie (Kevin) Tunney of Norfolk, Virginia, Carol (Jim) Albaugh of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Jim Rausch of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, William J. Rausch; paternal grandparents, Roman and Clara Rausch; and maternal grandparents, August and Agnus Holub.
Memorials in John’s memory may be made to the family to go towards his children’s education fund.
