John "Jack? H. Phillips, 84, a resident of ManorCare, died Tuesday, October 1, 2002, in St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2002, at Asbury United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Ed Powers. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 3, 2002, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Baker Cemetery, at a later date.

Survivors include his wife Becky; four sons, John (Sandra) of Solon, Dennis (Dianne) of Spencer, Tim (Pat) of Cedar Rapids, and Donald of Central City; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers; Donald and Walter; a sister, Margaurite; and a son, Ronald.

Jack was born September 30, 1918, the son of Walter and Mae (Donisthorpe) Phillips, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served in the United States Army during World War II. In 1947, Jack was united in marriage to Becky Hunter in Cedar Rapids. He was a carpet layer, worked for the city assessor and the county treasurer?s office, sold real estate and drove a city bus. Jack was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and American Legion in Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, reading and hunting.
