John Lee Newton
May 27, 1922 — August 9, 2005
Lee Newton, 83, of 2929 Prairie Drive N.E., died Tuesday, August 9, 2005, in Manor Care Health Services, Cedar Rapids, following a lingering illness. Memorial services will be held at a later date at Church of Christ on Center Point Road. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include his wife Jeannette; two daughters, Elaine (Ross) Leggatt of Brisbane, Australia and Susan (Frank) Dotro of Staten Island, New York; three sons, Raymond (Ann) Newton of Norwalk, Connecticut, Barry (Sophia) Newton of San Jose, California and Gregory (Marsha) Newton of Birmingham, Alabama; and a sister, Evelyn (Dan) Fish of San Jose, California.
Also surviving are eleven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Lee was born the son of John Lee and Eva Loader Newton, Sr. on May 27, 1922, in New Bedford, Massachusetts. On August 21, 1959, in Cedar Rapids, he married Jeannette Fleisher. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was a minister for the Church of Christ in Dover, New Jersey, Kirksville, Missouri, Toddville and Iowa City. He was a missionary for twelve years in Brisbane, Australia.
Lee?s church and his family were very important parts of his life.
