John B. Menge, 77, of Alburnett, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, August 7, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Conducted by: Rev. Sam Dronebarger. Visitation: 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 11 at the funeral home. Burial: Lafayette Cemetery, Alburnett. Military Honors provided by Toddville American Legion Post # 674.
Survivors include his wife, Phylis; his children, Mike (Dedria) Menge, Angie (Jeff) Drymon, Julie (Steve) Volesky, grandchildren, Erin, Kay, Maddie, Kylie; three great-grandchildren, Connor, Caleb, Caitlynne; sister, Pat (Tom) Roach; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother; and granddaughter, Martie Hodges.
John was born November 6, 1937, to AW & Marie (Gasser) Menge in Wapello, Iowa. He married his wife Phylis on November 6, 1965, in Rock Island. John was employed at Rockwell Collins for 33 years. He was a member of the Toddville American Legion Post #674 and also a member of the Iowa Firefighters Association. He attended the Lafayette Christian Church and was a United States Army Veteran for 6 years. John enjoyed woodworking, camping, and riding four wheelers. He took great pride in attending his granddaughters sporting events and military reunions. However, his greatest love of all was his time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
