John Robert "Jack? Larkin, 79, a resident of Anamosa Care Center, formerly of Marion, died Thursday, September 16, 2004, at the care center following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 20, 2004, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion by the Rev. José Comparán. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids with military honors. Friends may call from 2 - 5 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 19) at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, where a Parish vigil service will begin at 4 p.m.

Survivors include his son, John (Jean) Larkin of Marshalltown; two daughters, Sharon (Steve) Vanderlinden of Davenport and Sandi (David) Donnan of Springville; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; an infant daughter, Susan; and a grandson, James Larkin.

Jack was born February 21, 1925, the son of John G. and Marie A. (Vogel) Larkin in Cedar Rapids. He served with the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Corpsman, during the European and Pacific Theatres. On June 29, 1945, he married Dorothy June Pflughaupt in San Francisco. She died June 1, 2001. Jack was a serviceman for Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric for 42 years, retiring in 1987. Jack will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.

Jack was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion and American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion.
