John J. Kula, 69, of Center Point, Iowa, formerly of Alburnett, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019, after a short illness at his home surrounded by his family. Visitation: 4 – 8 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2019, at the Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. Celebration of John’s life will be held at his home on Saturday, July 20, 2019.

John was born July 18, 1949, in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Earl and Frances Kula. He graduated from Alburnett Community High School and attended Marshalltown Community College. John married Katrina Nielsen on December 27, 1969, in Central City, Iowa. He was a Certified Crop Specialist most of his life. He was an original founder of the Alburnett Diamond Club. His eagerness for public speaking took him to the Dale Carnegie Training Course and he won several awards for public speaking. John loved to cook and his specialty was homemade pizza. He also enjoyed fishing, woodworking and carpentry.

John is survived by his wife, Katrina Kula of Center Point; sons, Matthew Kula and Dan (Andrea) Kula and John’s grandchildren, Tanya and Trista, all of Center Point; siblings, Mary Ann (Chuck) Williams of Alburnett and Richard (Kathi) Kula of Cincinnati, Ohio; brother-in-law, Kevin (Patty) Nielsen; and mother-in-law, Joan Nielsen of Alburnett.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Earl and Frances; brother, Robert; and father-in-law, Ronald Nielsen.
