John Patrick Kelly, 64 of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where the family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Friday.
Survivors include his wife, Dawn; his daughters, Kari Jo Hamme, Kristi (Charles) Kennedy and Jodi (Brian) Langlinais; his sons, Jeffrey, Jack (Monica), Sean (Tracee) and Josh, all of the Houston, Texas area; his stepchildren, Jason (Jennifer) Wagy of Oquawka, Illinois and B.J. Wagy of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two sisters, Norma (Frank) Webb of Galesburg, Illinois and Ruth Ann Koster of Richardson, Texas; a brother-in-law, James (Bobbi) Adams of Dayton, Texas; 18 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; his beloved puppy, Buckwheat; and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years; Joan Marie (Adams) Kelly; and his parents.
John was born March 16, 1943, the son of Elmer “Jack” and Lillian June (Lamm) Kelly, in Macomb, Illinois. He served in the United States Navy. On November 28, 1961, John was united in marriage to Joan Marie Adams in Galesburg, Illinois, until death on December 25, 1995. He married Dawn Wagy in Oquawka, Illinois, on March 7, 1998. John enjoyed classic cars, NASCAR, and spending time with family and friends. He also was an avid Chicago Bears and The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame football fan. John (Daddy) was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful I.C.U. staff at Mercy Hospital for taking care of John (Daddy) during this difficult time. They also would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Carpenter’s staff that gave us precious time to bid farewell to the man we all loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society in memory of John.
