John W. “Jack” Rose, 73, of Solon, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 30, 2007, in Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, following a short battle with cancer. Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 3, 2007, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Joe Polzin. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Dolores “Dee”; two children, Jeff (Kim) Rose of Marion, Iowa; daughter, Julie (Alex) Rose-Weston of Lawrence, Kansas; and three grandchildren, Andrea, Bradley and Evondi.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Georgia Rose.
Jack was born July 20, 1934, in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Harry and June (Mays) Rose. He met Dolores Klemper at the University of Iowa and they married on March 1, 1957. He served in the U.S. Army. Jack received a degree from the University of Iowa in geology. He worked for B.L. Anderson, Vulcan Materials and retired from Wendling Quarries. Through his work and leisure activities he touched the lives of many people. Jack was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and enjoyed trap shooting.
He was a servant of God, kind, compassionate and giving. He never met a person he didn’t like. Jack was a devoted father and a loving husband. He made his relationship with each grandchild special. He loved to tend God’s earth through gardening and watching nature. He was a lover of music, art and people.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jack’s memory to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, 315 18th Street, Hiawatha, Street 52233.
