John 'Jack' A. Brecht

John “Jack” Brecht, 81, of Fairfax, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at Lantern Park Specialty Care in Coralville, Iowa. Visitation: 1 – 2 p.m. on October 14, 2023, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Graveside service will immediately follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Jack was born June 7, 1942, in Fairfax, Iowa, the son of Edward and Anna (Spellerberg) Brecht. He served his country honorably as Sgt. First Class in the United States Army during Vietnam. Jack married Jeanne Sass in Cedar Rapids. He was the jack-of-all-trades and he enjoyed watching NASCAR and drag racing. Jack loved caring for his koi pond, birds, and many other animals. He enjoyed barbequing or as he thought, “The Meat Master”. Jack had a sweet tooth for apple pie, ice cream and pastries. He loved spending time with all of his grandkids and great-grandkids. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Brecht of Fairfax; children, Christine Flickinger of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Shawn Brecht of Yukon, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Jesse, Kayla, DJ, Danielle, and Mason Brecht, Leah Brenneman, Sara Nguyen, and Breanna Flickinger; sister, Joyce Vosdingh; great-grandchildren, Talon, Khloe, Lodan and Shalee; many nieces and nephews; and great-fur kids, Jax, Watson, Oakley, and Penny.
Jack was preceded in death by his son, Brian John Brecht; parents, Edward, and Anna Brecht; parents-in-law, Carroll and Lilah Sass; and brothers, Bill and Bob Brecht.
