John Jay Huber, 86, a resident of Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha, formerly of Prairieburg, died Friday, October 11, 2002, in the care center, following a brief illness. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2002, at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Prairieburg by the Rev. Wayne Droessler. Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Ryan. Friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Central City, where a parish vigil will be held at 7 p.m.

Surviving are his children, Paul (Linda) Huber of Cedar Rapids, Ben Huber of Cedar Rapids, Noel (Patti) Huber of Marion, Mary Woods of Coggon, Patsy (Jim) Farrington of Prairieburg, Tim (Carol) Huber of Hiawatha, Jeannie Huber of Hiawatha and Loraine (Gary) Kula of Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Donald "Duck? (Dee) Huber of Delhi and Dave (Jeanne) Huber of Independence; and two sisters, Clara Bonin of Rochester, Minnesota and Helen (Don) Zimmerman of Hopkinton; and a sister-in-law, Gerry Huber of Hopkinton.

Also surviving are thirty-one grandchildren; and thirty-two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Loraine, his parents, a daughter, Marjorie, two sons, Ted and Peter ( both who died in infancy), two sisters, Laura and Catherine, two brothers, Thomas and Patrick, and a son-in-law, Tom Woods.

John was born the son of George and Mary "Molly? Hill Huber on January 28, 1916, in rural Farley. On November 24, 1938, at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Manchester, he was united in marriage to Loraine A. Sands. John was a farmer and concrete mason for many years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Prairieburg, Knights of Columbus, and Cement Masons Local No 561 of Cedar Rapids.

John will be remembered as a man of great faith and known for his strong work ethic. He loved to farm and garden. John?s work and his family meant everything to him. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

A memorial fund has been established in John?s memory.
