John V. Hogan, 89, of Manchester, Iowa, died Tuesday morning, June 3, 2003 at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester, of heart failure.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2003, at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Manchester, Iowa, with Rev. Dennis Miller officiating. Friends may call from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service where the Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. and a Scripture Service will held at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Friday morning at the church. Burial will be in the St. Mary?s Catholic Cemetery in Manchester.

John was born May 26, 1914, in Delaware County, the son of Frank & Kate (McGuire) Hogan. On April 22, 1937, John was united in marriage to Virginia L. Power at the St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Manchester. John and Virginia lived in Manchester before moving to their dairy farm north of town. They sold the farm in 1974 and moved back to town the following year. The couple started wintering in the south in the early 1980?s before settling in Zapata, Texas in 1992.

John was a member of the St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Manchester, past member of the Parish Council, was a Charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and served as 4-H leader in Delaware county for many years. He took great pride in his dairy operation. John was a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all.

John is survived by his eight children, John M. (Barbara) Hogan of Manchester, Stephen (Casey Harms) Hogan, of Marion, David Hogan of Garden City, Michigan, Mary Kay Hogan of Iowa City; Eunice (Mike) Hasselbring of Jeffersonville, Indiana, Nancy Foss of Iowa City, Janice (Jim) Gude of Papillion, Nebraska, Mona (Doug) Rans of Manchester; twenty-five grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia L. Hogan, on February 15, 2001; his parents, Frank & Kate Hogan; two daughters-in-law, Kathy Hogan and Laura Hogan, one son-in-law, Steve Foss; one grandson, Stephen Leonard Hogan; one brother, Frank Hogan and a sister, Mary Ellen Faust.

In lieu flowers the family requests that memorials be directed to the St. Mary?s School Fund or Camp Courageous.
