However, friends and family are invited to gather in John?s memory, from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion.

He is survived by his mother, Margaret of Alburnett; two brothers, James of Alburnett and Duane of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Janis (Frank) Ramsey of Scottsdale, Arizona; two nephews, Scott (Dallas) Hill of Lockport, Illinois and Brian Ohrt of Irving, Texas; a niece, Teri (Dan) Miller of Lockport, Illinois; a great-nephew, Jake Hill; his special friend, Denise Wachal; several aunts and uncles including Bob (Darlene) Henderson of Coggon, Jim (Marge) Henderson of Toddville, Henry Wagner of Cedar Rapids, Shirley (Chuck) Hollan of Cedar Rapids and Nadine Swanson of Coggon; and several cousins.

John was preceded in death by his father, Harold; and grandparents, Ross and Mary Hill and Art and Mabel Henderson.

John was born in Manchester, Iowa, June 2nd, 1941, to Harold R. and Margaret Henderson Hill. He attended school in Coggon and Montezuma before the family moved to Alburnett in 1956. At age 16, John was involved in an automobile accident, which left him a paraplegic. John never let the challenges of his handicap prevent him from enjoying an independent and productive life. He graduated from Alburnett High School in 1960, and from Cedar Rapids Business College in 1964 with a degree in Business and Accounting. In 1965, he started an accounting and tax service. He also worked for the City of Alburnett for thirty-one years serving as City Clerk and later as Finance Administrator. In 1988, John started another business, Space Options, in Town and Country Shopping Center, later moving that business to Alburnett. After selling the business in 1996, he became the Secretary of the Alburnett Community School Board. He remained in that position until a debilitating stroke in April 1997.

John was cared for in his home until he moved to Willow Gardens Care Center in July 2000. John was an avid fan of all sports, especially baseball and auto racing and the stock market.
