John William Dobbins

John William Dobbins, 74, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. Burial will take place at a later date at Moline City Cemetery in Moline, Kansas. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family.
John was born on June 1, 1946, in Richmond, California, the son of Harry and Evelyn (Cleveland) Dobbins. He graduated from Moline High School in 1964. He began serving in the United States Navy in 1965 during the Vietnam War. John was united in marriage to Karen (Inman) on August 13, 1967, in Moline, Kansas. John retired from the Navy in 1986 after 21 years of service and began working as an information technology contractor. He enjoyed woodworking and crafting lathed wooden pens. He was a Ham radio operator with call sign “K0HUR”.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Dobbins of Cedar Rapids; sons, John Michael Dobbins and Eric (Melissa) Dobbins all of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and three sisters-in-law and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
