John M. Colony, 77, of 1700 Waubeek Rd., Central City, formerly of North Liberty, died peacefully, Thursday, February 10, 2005, at St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, due to complications of an on going illness. Services: 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 14, 2005, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Jonna Jensen, with military rites. The family will greet friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, February 13, 2005, at the funeral home. Burial: North Liberty Cemetery, North Liberty.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha of Ames, Iowa, and granddaughter, Amy of Los Angeles, California; a son, Mark Colony and grandchildren Raymond and Vanessa of Central City; his sisters, Mary (Robert) Williams of Deland, Florida, and Melva (Tinsel) Eddleman of Brownsburg, Indiana; his cousins, nieces and nephews; and still living, Ruth Ann, former wife, but frequent companion.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John was born November 21, 1927, the son of Eugene and Melva Myers Colony, in North Liberty, Iowa. A 1946 graduate from City High in Iowa City, he attended the University of Iowa for two years and received his certificate in Agriculture from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. John served with the United States Army in 1950, spending three years in Germany. On June 19, 1955, he married Ruth Ann Holzinger in Wyoming, Iowa. A farmer in the Wyoming area since 1959, John loved to drive and travel after his retirement. He was a very social person who enjoyed the Jolly Rogers Campground and loved woodworking, camping and boating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzhiemers Association or the American Legion.
