John "Charlie? Fox, 75, of Manchester, died Thursday, January 19, 2006, at the Northeast Iowa Christian Retirement Community in Strawberry Point after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer?s disease.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2006 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Manchester by Rev. Henry Huber. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Sunday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester and one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Burial with military rites will be in St. Mary?s Catholic Cemetery, Manchester.
Charlie was born December 13, 1930 in Dubuque, the son of Jesse B. & E. Lucille (Shaw) Fox. A 1948 graduate of Manchester High School, he went on to attend Upper Iowa University and the University of Dubuque. Charlie served his country during the Korean Conflict as an aircraft machinist in the United States Navy from 1951-1954 at Westover Air Base in Massachusetts. On December 18, 1953 Charlie was united in marriage to Georgeann Kramer at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Manchester. Upon his discharge, Charlie returned to Manchester and worked as general manager of Smitty?s Inc. until retiring in 2003.
A loving father, husband and trusted friend, Charlie will always be remembered for his helpfulness, honesty and kindness. He especially enjoyed building and flying model airplanes and the friendships he made in the Manchester and Dubuque radio-control flying clubs.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Georgeann Fox of Manchester; two daughters, Pamela (Ed) Eike of Manchester and Nanette Fox of North Liberty; three sons, Rex (Dee) Fox of Lisbon, Ted (Tracey) Fox of Manchester and Kurt (Sonja) Fox of Dyersville; six grandchildren, Barry & Brandon Eike, Nicole Dunkel, Ian Gassmann and Hailey & Morgan Fox; and one great-granddaughter, Lexi.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse & Lucille Fox; and a brother, George S. Fox.
