John Wesley Bunting, 86, of Marion, died Friday, March 24, 2017. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2017, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, conducted by Reverend David O’Connor. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion with military honors.

Survivors include his wife, Masa of Marion; two children, James (Claudia) Bunting of Shellsburg and Joan (Dayton) Fish of Luana; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

John was born August 28, 1930, the son of Neal and Dorothy (Winter) Bunting in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Marion High School in 1948. On October 10, 1954, he married Masa Joan Hatch in Central City. John served with the U.S. Navy as a Seabee from 1950-1954, during the Korean Conflict. He was a letter carrier for nearly 30 years, retiring from the Post Office in 1985.

He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a member of VFW in Cedar Rapids, and NLCA. John was an avid fisherman, loved woodworking, playing cards and wintering with Masa in Mission, Texas.

Memorials may be made to the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, in Hiawatha.
