Robert "Bob? Currell, 92, a resident of Northbrook Manor Care, died Wednesday, September 25, 2002, at the care center, following a lingering illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2002, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Karl Glovik. Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, September 29, 2002, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a Scripture service will begin at 3:30 p.m. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia; his son, John F. (Mary) Currell of West Bloomfield, Michigan; two stepsons, Donald (Debra) Paulson of El Paso, Texas, and Thomas Paulson of Marion; four grandchildren, Cynthia, Joseph, Martha and Laura; two step-grandchildren, Lisa and Tom; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Rita; and a brother, Charles.
John was born December 28, 1910, the son of John and Florence (Rooke) Currell, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 1931, he married Rita Mauget. She died February 8, 1973. John later married Georgia Osvald on September 27, 1973. For 29 years, he worked for the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, retiring as Superintendent in 1965. John then worked for Iowa Manufacturing Company until 1975. He and Georgia catered parties in the Cedar Rapids area, retiring in 1977.
John enjoyed traveling, working on variety of home projects, building birdhouses and stamp collecting. He also loved to be with his family and friends and enjoyed conversations with all.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of John.
