Joe Gene Putnam, 50, of 211 Stone Hedge Drive N.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, November 8, 2008, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness. Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 13, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Del Bear. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date.
Survivors include his wife, Lynda; his children, Dan Putnam of Ames, Kelli Putnam of Iowa City, Rachel (Kevin Wright) Deerberg of Cedar Rapids and Ashley Deerberg at home; his dad, Wesley Price of Tulare, South Dakota; his siblings, Ted (Michelle) Price of Tulare, South Dakota, Susan (Glenn) Hines of Carpenter, South Dakota, Nancy (Lowell) Hofer of Newton, Kansas, Georgi (Jim) Marable of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Julie (Darrell) Driskell of Hudson, Colorado, Becky (Mervin) Driskell of Tulare, South Dakota and Cathy (Clinton) Paulson of Huron, South Dakota; and many friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his mom, Emilie Price.
Joe was born February 8, 1958, in Meridian, Mississippi, and was raised in Wyoming and South Dakota. Joe married Michelle Bru in 1980. They later divorced. He married Lynda (Hilsenbeck) Deerberg on October 15, 1997, in Cedar Rapids. Joe was employed at Intermec Technologies as an engineer.
Joe loved his children and enjoyed meeting them for coffee. Other joys were riding motorcycles, the mountains, doing woodworking and helping others. He was known as a guy who could fix anything. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A memorial fund has been established in Joe’s memory.
