Jocile C. Walsh, 86, of Robins, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at Emery Place in Robins. Private family services will be held. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Jocile was born on April 13, 1935, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of James and Mabel (Valliere) Walsh. She graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Cedar Rapids and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Mundelein College, Chicago. Illinois, and later earned a master’s degree from the University of Montana. She was a member of the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM) for 16 years. During her long career in private and public education, Jocile taught elementary music, computers, and library science.
Following her retirement, Jocile volunteered for the BVM’s. She also taught computers and English as a second language at the Lantern Center in Dubuque, Iowa. Jocile will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Jocile is survived and lovingly remembered by her brother, Thomas (Maura) Walsh of Robins; two nieces, Jocile (Rick) Barbieri of Wheaton, Illinois, and Kathleen (Mike) Newhouse of Marion, Iowa; nephew, James (Tracy) Walsh of Mesa, Arizona; six grand nieces, Marie (Kyle) Cooley of West Des Moines, Iowa, Carolyn Newhouse of Madison, Wisconsin, Deanna Newhouse of Cedar Rapids, Colleen Barbieri of Fort Worth, Texas, Kristin (Sean) Hilson of Chicago, and Erin Walsh of Scottsdale, Arizona; and two grand nephews, Brian Barbieri of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Alex Walsh of Denver, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Walsh, O.M.I., and her parents
The family wishes to thank the staff at Emery Place, Robins, for enriching Jocile’s life. They also thank the staff at Hospice of Mercy for their wonderful care for Jocile in her final days.
