Joanne Everhart Beasler, 77, of West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, February 11, 2006, at the care center, from complications of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2006, at First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Kay Slocum and Rev. Daniel Kolander. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Entombment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include her husband, Otto; her brother, Warren (Joann) Everhart of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Marlyse (Terry) Strait and grandchildren, Alex and Elizabeth Strait of Cedar Rapids; her stepchildren, Jerry (Marijo) Beasler, grandchildren, Kristen and Lindsey of Cedar Rapids, Nancy (Phil) Branson, and grandson, Eddie of Fort Meyers, Florida; and Janelle (Mark) Block and grandsons, Chris and Josh of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Miller; and two sons, David and Scott Miller.

Joanne was born July 17, 1928, the daughter of Raymond and Grace (Estes) Everhart in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A 1946 Wilson High School graduate, she graduated from Carthage College with a degree in education and Spanish, and earned a Master?s Degree in Spanish from the University of Iowa. On May 25, 1974, she married Otto Beasler in Cedar Rapids. For Joanne, teaching Spanish was her passion. She taught from 1959-1967 at Jefferson High School and from Kennedy High School from 1967-1988.

Joanne was a member of the Friendship Force, an international Iowa Ambassador program, and was a Fullbright Scholar. In her retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, attending Hawkeye football games, quilting, and social events with her church group. Joanne will be remembered for her strength and determination in overcoming many personal adversities in her life and for her sense of humor.

Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in memory of Joanne.
