Joan Marie Simons, 61, of Independence, Iowa, died Thursday, September 1, 2005, at her home after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 4, 2005 at the Living Hope Evangelical Free Church in Manchester. Friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 3 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester and one hour before services Sunday at the church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Masonville.
Joan was born September 25, 1943, the daughter of Thomas E. and Ella M. (Haigh) Kenna in Manchester. She graduated from Charlotte Catholic High School in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1961. Joan returned to Iowa to attend Mercy School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids. On May 25, 1979 Joan was united in marriage to Richard D. Simons at Washington Park in Waterloo. She worked as a registered nurse at Charlotte Memorial Hospital, Allen Memorial Hospital, and for the Blackhawk County Department of Health,
Joan was a member of the Living Hope Evangelical Free Church in Manchester. She liked crocheting, country western music, going to craft shows, shopping and traveling.
Joan is survived by her husband, Richard D. Simons of Independence; two daughters, Angie Kenna of Des Moines and Amy (Kevin) Mesch of Manchester; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Rev. Dan Kenna of Raleigh, NC, Dennis (Deb) Kenna of Charlotte, NC and John Kenna of Charlotte, NC.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Ella Kenna and a grandson, Joseph Thomas Mesch.
