Joan Marie (Michalec) Miller, 81, of Ely, Iowa, passed away Friday, April 19, 2024, at her home. No services will be held and a private inurnment will take place at St. John's Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, assisted the family.
Joan was born June 23, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Frank W. and Mary M. (Philipp) Michalec. She was united in marriage to William C. Miller on May 22, 1965, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. William passed away in 2017. She worked as a nurse's aide at Silver Pine Nursing Home and ManorCare Health Services, retiring in 2008. Joan was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
Survivors include her children, Dean Miller of Ely, Michele Miller of Boulder Creek, California, and Douglas (Erika) Miller of Pinson, Tennessee; siblings, Sister Mary Frances Michalec, Rosie Harvey, Teresa (Robert) Ruzicka, all of Cedar Rapids, Patty Smith of Anamosa, Iowa, Robert Michalec, William (Sherry) Michalec, Phillip Michalec, and Michael (Diane) Michalec, all of Cedar Rapids.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brothers, Franklin, Benjamin, and Bernard Michalec.
