Jimmy Francis Hansel
June 29, 1942 — March 17, 2008
Jimmy F. Hansel, 65, of 4420 Deer View Road, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, March 17, 2008, in the Grandview Health Center, Oelwein, Iowa, following a long illness. Services: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Del Bear. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 21, 2008, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda, parents, Francis and Nellie (Hill) Hansel; daughter, Michele Kelley of Cedar Rapids; granddaughters, Austyn Slaybaugh, Brittny Slaybaugh and Codie Lyman; sister, Joyce Hansel; brother, Larry Hansel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Hahesy.
Jimmy was born June 29, 1942, in Boyes Hot Springs, California, the son of Francis and Nellie Jeanette (Hill) Hansel. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. On April 1, 1967, he married Wanda Pierce in Manchester. He worked for Rockwell Collins for 34 years.
Some of Jimmy’s joys were collecting coins and books, playing golf and hunting. He was a great father and an even better grandfather. His grandchildren always put a smile on his face.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Jimmy’s memory.
