He was preceded in death by his parents; and the love of his life and best friend, Hazel, his wonderful wife of 56 years.
Jesse was born August 9, 1920, in Cedar Rapids, to Charles and Grace (Joyner) Wright. Jesse was the great grandson of Sarah (Boone) Wright, the granddaughter of Daniel Boone. Jesse served in the Army Air Corps during WWII from January 1942 to October 1945. He was a recipient of six bronze stars, many field ribbons and many commendations, one being one of the first planes to bomb the oil fields in Romania, a very daring raid in World War II. He was a member of the VFW 788 and will have a military service. He was united in marriage in Cedar Rapids to Hazel Mathey on January 6, 1946. He worked most of his adult life for Thermogas (Mapco) as the service directory. He made many friends because of his integrity and great humor. Jesse always helped those less fortunate. He retired in 1982. Jesse enjoyed fishing, watching Hawkeye football and basketball, and most of all traveling all over the United States and camping with Hazel. They wintered in south Texas after retiring.
The family would like to thank Hospice of St. Luke’s for their help and compassion. Also thanks to all the wonderful staff at Anamosa Care Center. Jesse thought of them as his second family. They gave Jesse wonderful care and treated him with compassion and dignity. God Bless You.
