Jesse A. Jarvis, 91, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Manchester, died Sunday evening, January 4, 2004 in Cedar Rapids, after a lingering illness.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Manchester, with Msgr. Ralph Simington presiding. Friends may call from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Manchester, and one hour prior to services at the church. A rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Burial will be in St. Mary?s Catholic Cemetery, Manchester.

Jesse was born June 26, 1912, in Turton, SD, the son of Meddy S. and Lillie (Marten) Jarvis. He attended school in Turton and moved to the Manchester area in the 1930?s during the depression. He farmed and worked constructing Highway 20 with his father. On January 5, 1937, Jesse was united in marriage with Marcella C. Meyer at St. Mark?s Catholic Church in Edgewood. The couple settled on a farm near Edgewood before moving to farm near Ryan in 1939. In 1952, they moved to Cedar Rapids where Jesse went to work for Link Belt Speeder. They then moved to Mt. Vernon in 1960 where he worked for Cusion Pack and Lloyd?s Table. Marcella died November 28, 1985. Jesse continued to live in Mt. Vernon until he moved to Bertram to live near his daughter.

Jesse did carpentry work. He also raised rabbits for over sixty years and enjoyed showing them. He was a lifetime member of the Rabbit Breeder Association.

He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Shirley & Albert Lnenicka of Bertram; two grandchildren, Lisa (Russ) Steven of Ely and Julie (Stacy) Farris of Versailles, MO; two great-grandchildren, Chase & Sabrina Farris; two sisters, Marguerite Porter of Manchester and Doris (Robert) Burns of Winthrop; and a special friend, Caroline Walton of Mt. Vernon.

Jesse was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marcella; a sister, Florence Fischer; and a brother-in-law, Clair Porter.
