Jerry W. Schneekloth, 73, of Ely, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, September 7, 2017. Visitation: 4 – 7 p.m. Thursday, September 14, 2017, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 15, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids.
Jerry was born October 17, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Gilbert and Leona (Rottman) Schneekloth. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1961, and was a proud member of the only state baseball championship team in school history. On December 8, 1962, Jerry married Peggy Vanderlind at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. He worked at Evergreen (Cherry Burrell) for 44 years and he was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was very active. Jerry truly loved his family and enjoyed the time they could spend together golfing, bowling, fishing, camping and traveling. He was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Kansas City Royals fan. Jerry played Major Open softball for Collins Radio and was inducted into the Cedar Rapids Softball Hall of Fame. He will also be inducted into the State Softball Hall of Fame in October 2017. He was very much loved and will be missed dearly.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Peggy; children, Scott (Lisa) Schneekloth of Indianapolis, Indiana, Deborah (Robert) Adams of Ely and Randy (Kris) Schneekloth of Cedar Rapids; granddaughters, Kathiah (Chris) Osborne of Cedar Rapids, Aubrey Schneekloth of Cedar Rapids, and Marisa (fiancé, Josh Polansky), Madalynn and Maleeah Adams of Ely; grandson, McKade Adams of Ely; brothers, Dr. Rev. Larry (Rosemary) Schneekloth of Markham, Illinois, Gary (Sharon) Schneekloth of Wheat Ridge, Colorado and Terry (Charity) Schneekloth of Cedar Rapids; sister, Sherry Schneekloth of Fairfax, Iowa; father-in-law, Edward (Maxine) Vanderlind of Sarasota, Florida; brother-in-law, Robert (Sue) Vanderlind of Waterloo, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Sandy (Mike) Reid of Marion, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Leona and mother-in-law, Barbara Vanderlind.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Jerry’s memory.
