Jerry W. "Hoser" Strong
February 26, 1943 — March 13, 2014
Jerry “Hoser” Strong, 71, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully and surround by love on Thursday, March 13, 2014. Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2014, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where the family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until service time. Military Honors will be conducted. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Jan; sons, Boyd (Deb) and Bryon, all of Cedar Rapids; children by marriage, but was really like a dad to them, Kelli of Marion, and Kyle (Jenny) of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Ashley, Shane, Hunter, Seth and Alyssa; great-grandson, Carter Lee; sisters, Ginger Strong (Marilyn) of Hannibal, Missouri, and Dawn (Art) Jacobsen of Independence, Iowa; and faithful companion, Missy Marie.
He was preceded in death by his Mom and Dad; sister, Sandy Clark; brother, Doyce; and stepdaughter, Karri.
Jerry was born in Oelwein, Iowa, at home, on February 26, 1943, to Boyd A. and Mae A. Strong. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1961-1964, becoming a paratrooper. After the service, he worked at various jobs. In September, 1966, he was hired by Quaker Oats, working until his retirement, January 1, 2000. While employed at Quaker he was a proud and head strong union member of Local 110.
Jerry loved to fish, golf, his Colts and Miller Lite Tall Boys, but his favorite place on this earth to be was in Las Vegas.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of Mercy in Jerry’s memory, because without their unselfish and unconditional care and support of him and me, I ( Jan) would not have been able to carry out his last wish of being at home.
