Jerome "Jerry? Smiley, 60, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Marion, died Monday, June 7, 2004, at his home, following a long illness. Services: 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2004, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Del Bear. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Wilcox Cemetery, Viola, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Flor; his children, Laura (Lyle) Pearson of Martelle, Robert Smiley of Cedar Rapids, Van (Sheryl) Smiley of Coggon and Jerry Smiley Jr. of Houston, Texas; his brother, Bill Smiley (Mary McCauley) of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Rachel and Robynn Pearson and Lucas and Elizabeth Smiley; his in-laws, Rodrigo and Alicia Bahague of Houston, Texas; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jerry was born March 11, 1944, the son of Van and Zela (Reeves) Smiley in Torrance, California. He married Linda Raetz on April 4, 1964, and later married Flor Bahague on May 9, 1980 in Cedar Rapids. He worked for the State of Texas as a Park Ranger for eleven years.
Jerry loved to fish, hunt and read. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
