Jeannette E. Bryant, 87, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully from complications of cancer on July 3, 2020, at her home surrounded by family. Due to COVID-19, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service is assisting the family.

Jeannette was born December 14, 1932, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Donald and Estella Edgar. She graduated from La Moille High School in La Moille, Iowa. Jeannette married Wayne Bryant on August 27, 1952, and moved to Cedar Rapids in 1959. Her professional life included working for Northwestern Bell, Dairy Queen as an owner / operator, Brenton Bank and the Cedar Rapids City Clerk’s Office.

Jeannette was an active volunteer and member in the community, participating in ABWA, Community Free Health Clinic, El Kahir Shrine Women’s Auxiliary, Cedar Rapids City Ambassadors and El Kahir Shrine Corn Maze and Haunted Maze. During her daughters’ school years, she was an active member of the PTA and taught Red Cross swimming lessons, Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. Jeannette was a member of Cedar and Marion Christian Churches.

Jeannette enjoyed bowling, reading, playing bridge, soaking up the rays and all things purple. She had a huge heart, joyful spirit, positive attitude and outlook and always had the biggest smile. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Jeannette is survived and lovingly remembered by her four daughters, Lynn Bryant of Cedar Rapids, Cheryl Bryant (Steve Whittlesey) of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, Brenda Hipp (Fred) of St. Helena, California, and Kim Plath (Kirk) of Castle Pines, Colorado; four grandchildren, Adam Hipp, Bryant Taylor (Alan), Jared Plath (Elizabeth), and Hannah Plath; two great-grandchildren, Stella Taylor and Isla Plath; and sister, Marsha O'Neill (Andy) of Iowa City, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Floyd; and most recently, husband, Wayne.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the El Kahir Shrine General Fund at 905 Tower Terrace Road in Hiawatha, Iowa, 52233 or the El Kahir Shrine Women’s Auxillary, attention to Nickie Waddell at 1280 Elm Street in Marion, Iowa, 52302.
