Jeanne C. Jiruska, 88, most recently of Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Services: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 2010, at Westminister Presbyterian Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Don Houdeshell. Family will greet friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, August 13, 2010, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids
Survivors include her children, Rod Jiruska, David (Donna) Jiruska, both of Cedar Rapids and Dan Jiruska of Parker, Colorado; four grandchildren, Shane, Jourdan, Jennifer and Nikolas; a sister, Phyllis Hagerbaumer of Pensacola, Florida; and a cousin, Wayne Stephenson of Clayton, California, who was raised like a brother in the Lanning home.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Ray.
Jeanne was born July 2, 1922, the daughter of Erwin and Lanorah (Oliphant) Lanning, in rural Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A graduate from Marion High School, she attended the Vogue School of Fashion in Chicago. Jeanne was employed as a fashion model and apprentice millinery designer in Chicago. She then went on to graduate from the Draghon Business University of Springfield, Missouri. On March 17, 1943, Jeanne married Raymond Jiruska at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
