Jeanette was born on September 6, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to William and Dorothy (Stahl) Helm. Jeanette found the love of her life and was united in marriage to Francis Duane Whiting on July 25, 1953, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple soon welcomed their three surviving children: Darrell (Jeanice) Whiting, Deborah (Scott) Dawson, Dennis (Robyn) Whiting. While raising her children Jeanette also worked full-time as an Avionics Inspector at Rockwell Collins for 24 years. During these years, she and Duane tended to a 69-acre farm where Jeanette enjoyed gardening and canning her harvest. If Jeanette wasn't in the kitchen preparing meals, tending to her home or her family, you would find her alongside her husband in their many adventures. They loved to take vacations with friends and family on motorcycles, going camping and boating. They spent many years enjoying their horses from boarding, training, racing and trail riding.
Over the years Jeanette was in bowling leagues, she enjoyed crafting, reading books, doing crossword puzzles, crocheting, playing the organ and bird watching. Jeanette loved the chance to get dressed up and spend the night square dancing with her husband and friends. She was a devoted wife who took early retirement to follow the career path of her husband which led them to Texas.
Upon his retirement they returned to their farm in Ely to be close to their family. Jeanette was an unwavering wife who showed her family that a strong marriage begins with love and devotion. She took a lot of pride in her home and always welcomed visits from her children and grandchildren: Tracy (Eric) Von Sprecken, RaeLynn (Ashley) Dawson-Jensen, Dirk (Melissa) Whiting, Drew (Melissa) Whiting, Branden Whiting, Brooklyn Whiting and Brittney Whiting who she cherished dearly. Jeanette also was blessed with 13 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Cheryl (Richard) Matus; brothers, Chuck Langguth and Craig (Emmy) Langguth.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her father, William Helm; mother and stepfather, Dorothy & Zuke Langguth; and a sister-in-law, Diane Langguth.
When asked how Jeanette was she always responded, "I'm sweet, lovely and easy to get along with." This is a true testament of who she was, always kind and sweet, never speaking an ill word. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate her life and find comfort with the memories she left us, knowing that she is reunited with her husband in heaven watching over us.
