Jeanette Isabelle Mcdonald (Holmes)
April 15, 1924 — May 21, 2008
Jeanette I. McDonald, 84, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a lengthy illness. Family and friends will gather from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, May 25, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Private family burial: Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Survivors include her husband, Dale; son, Dan of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Jodi and husband, Brad White of Maplewood, Minnesota; and granddaughter, Jeanette “Jenni” White of Eagan, Minnesota.
Also surviving are two brothers, Ralph Holmes of Belle Plaine and John R. Holmes of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Arton and Gladys Holmes; four sisters, Thetis Churchill, Noma Karr, Verna Ruth Holmes and Laurel Roskop.
Jeanette was born April 15, 1924. She graduated in January 1942 from Wilson High School. She and Dale knew each other all their lives. They were married 66 years.
She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile and Shrine Women’s Auxiliary.
Jeanette’s passion in life was spending time with her husband, children and granddaughter. She loved art. During the 1950’s and 1960’s, she was employed by Craemers and Martins Stores as a fashion artist.
She cherished the time spent together as a family. She was a loving wife, mom and friend. Jeanette will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, an art scholarship has been established in Jeanette’s name at the South St. Paul School district where her daughter is a teacher. Memorials may be directed to the South St. Paul Educational Foundation, 521 Marie Avenue South, St. Paul, Minnesota 55075 or the El Kahir Shrine Hospital Patient Transportation Fund 1400 Blairs Ferry Road N.E., Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402. This is a fund designed to help patients to be transported to the Children’s Hospital. Memorials may also be directed to the charity of choice.
