J. Dorothy “Dottie” (Lammers) Tucker, 86, a resident of Willow Gardens in Marion, died there, Monday, November 26, 2012. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, November 30, 2012, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, with a vigil service beginning at 6:00 p.m. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Survivors include her two foster daughters, Sarah Godwin of Las Vegas, NV, and Beverly Cline-Rangel of AZ; four grandchildren; sisters, Yvonne Theel and Anna Mae Besler both of Marion; and many nieces and nephews who were very special to her including Sharon (Joe) Chiaramonte, Patsi (Hal) Gann, and Wendy Martinson all of Marion, and Linda (Dennis) Rule of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed “Flip” Tucker, who died in 1990; her parents, John and Eleanor (Boeckenstedt) Lammers; sisters, Olive Keppler, Innocence Schnieders, Loretta Tauke, Charlotte Boeckenstedt, Germaine Johnson, and Margaret Gonzoles; a brother who died in infancy; and several nieces and nephews.
Dottie was born December 11, 1925, near Petersburg, IA, and attended school at Petersburg and Ridgeville country schools. She married Edmund “Flip” Tucker on October 1, 1945, in Cedar Rapids, IA. Dottie was a graduate of Lamson Business College in Phoenix, AZ, where she and Flip resided for many years. She worked as a cashier and bookkeeper at the Witwers Farmer’s Market in Cedar Rapids and at Googies in Pheonix, AZ. Dottie and Flip returned to Iowa in 1977, and she retired from Rockwell Collins payroll department in 1988.
Dottie loved to entertain; she enjoyed dancing, camping, traveling, family gatherings, auto races and dogs. Being a foster mother truly fulfilled her life. Dottie loved life, and lived it to the fullest. She will be greatly missed.
Dottie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion for many years. She was also a member of St. Jude’s League, Maryknoll Sisters, and past treasurer of Sacred Heart Circle.
