Jean Ella (Easterday) Vasos, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, February 28, 2015, at Hiawatha Care Center. Private Family Service: 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2015, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Burial will be at a later date at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas; two daughters, Ann (Larry) Morris of Cedar Rapids and Barb (Dick) Knockel of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Stephanie (Andrew) Kathmann, Ryan (Alicia) Morris, Laura Knockel, Leslie (Tom) Lewis, and Lynnsey Knockel; three great-grandchildren, Quinn, Cole, and Henry; and a brother, Robert (Alice) Easterday of Ft. Lupton, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Jean was born July 30, 1924, the daughter of Clarence and Lillian (Rundall) Easterday in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1942 and the University of Iowa in 1945. On June 9, 1945, Jean married Thomas Vasos in Newport, Rhode Island. She worked as a chemist at Quaker Oats and then taught elementary school in Marion.
Jean was a member of the D.A.R., Mayflower Society, and was a troop leader for the Bluebirds. She and Tom were active in the Merrimix Formal Dance Club. She was an avid collector of anything with turtles, spent time as a seamstress, made the best spaghetti sauce, and enjoyed her children and grandchildren.
Memorials will be donated to the WWII PT Boat Museum.
