Jean L. Starry, 85, of Delhi, died Friday morning, September 23, 2005 at St. Luke?s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a short illness.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 26, 2005 at the Delhi United Methodist Church in Delhi. Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Earlville and one hour before services Monday at the church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Delhi.
Jean was born December 17, 1919, in Cascade, the daughter of Lewis C. and Goldie (Brazelton) Keith. She attended school in Cascade and graduated from Delhi High School in 1938. Jean cleaned for Ryan area families. On June 1, 1941, Jean was united in marriage to Richard C. "Dick? Starry in Queen City, Missouri. The couple lived in Missouri, Tennessee, Iowa and South Carolina. After returning to Iowa, they resided on a farm near Delhi. In 1974 the couple moved into an apartment in Delhi. Jean worked for a short time at Rockwell-Collins in Cedar Rapids. Dick died in November, 1987.
Jean was active in the Delhi United Methodist Church, especially enjoying bible study. She liked to help serve Thursday morning Senior meals, bake apple pies, garden and yard work.
Jean is survived by two children; Carol (Terry) Harbach of Delhi, and Frank (Christina) Starry of King City, CA; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and a brother, Kenneth (LaRue) Keith of Ottumwa and Delhi.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis & Goldie Keith; her husband, Richard "Dick? Starry; a brother, John Keith; and four sisters, Verla Whittmore-Hawes, Georgie Swanson, Carol McAreavy and Marjory Keith in infancy.
