Jean Marie Shaffer

Jean M. Shaffer, 87, of Manchester, passed away Sunday, September 6, 2015, surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Manchester. Family will greet friends from 9:30 - 11 a.m., prior to service at the church. Graveside services will be at 1:30 pm, at Oakland Cemetery, Manchester. Bohnenkamp Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
Jean was born November 5, 1927, in Manchester, the daughter of Ray M. and Emma C. (Baehler) Gearhart. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and later graduated from Manchester High School in 1946. On December 30, 1950, Jean was united in marriage to Ervin J. Shaffer in Manchester.
Jean is a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Manchester. She is a 50-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Manchester. She enjoyed quilting and was an avid reader.
Jean’s family includes three daughters, Marsha (Bert) Meister of Manchester, Jill Shaffer of Des Moines, and Jody (Tom) McCoy of Des Moines; three grandsons, Matthew (Jill) Henderson of Cedar Rapids, Peter McCoy of Ft. Collins, CO, and Ben (Shay Davis) McCoy of Louisville, CO; great-grandchildren, Kahmeron, Kooper, Brayden, and Aria; and a sister, Helen Ryan of Manchester.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ervin; siblings Robert (Betty) Gearhart and Audrey (Henry) Leonard; and brother-in-law Dick Ryan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Delaware County Food Pantry.
