Jean Sejkora, 90, of Marion, died January 8, 2014, at St. Luke’s Hospice in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children: Dennis Sejkora and wife Sharon of Marion, Gary Sejkora and wife Pam of Dubuque, and Pat Akers of Marion; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; and a brother David Elder.
Jean was born on June 10, 1923, in Greybull, Wyoming, the daughter of William and Emeline (Armstrong) Elder. She grew up in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Franklin High School. Jean served in the US Navy WAVES during WWII from 1944-1946. In 1947, she was united in marriage to Harold Sejkora. Together they moved to a farm north of Marion. As well as being a farm wife, Jean operated Jeannie’s Beauty Shop in her home for over 30 years.
Jean was a member of the Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church, the American Legion, and was a 4-H leader. She and Hal loved traveling, especially their trips to Cancun, Hawaii, and their Caribbean cruises. They also loved dancing together. Jean was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always encouraged her family to be their very best. Her beauty shop patrons always left feeling more beautiful, and the world was more beautiful for her efforts.
Contributions may be made in Jean’s memory to Camp Courageous, Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church, or a charity of choice.
A celebration of Jean’s life and a visitation will be held in June.
