Jean McGinty Schuttloffel, 68, of Marion, died Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at St. Luke’s Hospital, following a courageous 2 year battle with cancer. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, March 9, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion where a parish vigil service will begin at 7:00 p.m. There will also be visitation one hour prior to mass at the church. Inurnment: 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 12, 2012, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, Darwin of Marion; two daughters, Lori Nylund of Cedar Rapids and Susan (Adam) Hawkins of North Liberty; two sons, Scott Schuttloffel of Marion and Al (Amy) Schuttloffel of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Phyllis (Richard) Corum of Springville and Haley Murphy of Walker; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many loving family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Edward; and a nephew, Bob Corum.
Jean was born July 11, 1943, the daughter of Harley and Norma (Roff) Morris in Manchester. She married Edward L. McGinty in 1962. He died in 1982. On October 12, 1992, she married Darwin Schuttloffel in Cedar Rapids.
Jean was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She graduated from Paris Beauty Academy in 1962 and worked as a stylist in Cedar Rapids for 10 years. She then went to work at Rockwell Collins as a test technician for 33 years, retiring in 2005.
Jean was a member of the Red Hat’s, past president of the SaPaDaPaSo, IBEW, Marion American Legion Post No. 298 Auxiliary, and former member of the Elks.
Jean was an avid golfer and bowler. She and Darwin were in various leagues for many years. They also enjoyed any opportunity to travel.
Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she touched many lives in many different ways and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
