Jean E. Russell, 92, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids. Private family interment will be at the Fairfax Cemetery, Fairfax. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Jeff (Beth) Russell of Olympia, Washington, and Joel (Jan) Russell of Bettendorf, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Kay Anderson of Minnesota; her six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; one brother, Chuck (Norine) Jelinek of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Lois Pfeiffer of La Porte City, Iowa; and three sisters-in-law, Marilyn Zerrener, Elaine Hildahl, and Jane Mornroe all of Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, LeRoy; second husband, Ted; son, Jim Russell; and brothers, Jack and Bill Jelinek.
Jean was born on May 25, 1921, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, daughter of Frank and Edna (Horning) Jelinek. She attended Roosevelt High School. Jean worked at Horak’s Drug Store before she got married and became a homemaker. She then worked at the Bell Telephone in Washington State. Later she was known as “The ice cream lady” at Roosevelt Jr. High School. Jean was a member of the Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. She will be missed.
