Jean E. Nelson, 84, of 299 6th Ave., died Thursday, June 1, 2006, at her home, following a courageous battle with cancer. Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2006, at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion by Pastor Kevin Jones. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Mary Nelson; grandchildren, Shari (Todd) Lewison, Lisa (Douglas) Johnson, Kristin (Tom) Angellotti, Ryan (Andrea) Nelson, Ross (Karla) Nelson, Carissa (Jamie) Jankowski and Carlee Nelson; and great-grandchildren, Cara, Peter, Daniel, Allie, Bradley, Lauren, McKenna, Louisa and Grantham.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leroy; three sons, Lary, Lee, and Paul; a daughter-in-law, Rachel Nelson; a sister, Doris Ryan; a brother, Clarence Dickey; and a brother-in-law, Chuck Ryan.
Jean was born December 23, 1921, the daughter of Harry and Tosie (Vanderlinden) Dickey in Arilla. She graduated from Murray High School. On December 5, 1941, she married Leroy Nelson in Jasper, Florida. He died November 4, 1981. Jean and Leroy were charter members of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion, where she remained active until the time of her death. Jean worked for the Marion YMCA and Drs. TJ Davis and Daniel Trimble. She retired in 1987. She served as a board member of the Linn County Jail Chaplaincy and was a volunteer for Hospice of Mercy. She loved playing bridge, traveling and quilting.
