Jean L. Lorence, 75, of Marion, died Thursday, September 21, 2006, at St. Luke?s Hospital, following a courageous battle with cancer. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 25, 2006, at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion by Rev. Kevin Jones and Rev. Dennis Johnson. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, Jack of Marion; her daughter, Judith (Richard) Burns of Marion; her son, Jon (Joan) Lorence of Solon; a brother, Gerol (Mary) Goodlove of Palo; a sister, Carole (Russell) Vanderpool of Gilbert, Arizona; seven grandchildren, Carrie (Matt) Olmstead, Ryan (Shelly) Burns, Kelly (Ryan) Hemphill, Dana Burns, Jena Lorence, Jesse Lorence, and Jill Lorence; four great-grandchildren, Mason, Tyler, and Ally Olmstead and Reece Burns; and special friends, Judy Barta of Marion and Carol Prehm of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Jean was born April 13, 1931, the daughter of Covert and Berneita (Kruse) Goodlove in rural Central City. She graduated from Center Point High School in 1949. On October 15, 1949, she married Jack Lorence at the Methodist Church in Center Point. Jean worked as a secretary for Wilkins Elementary School for nineteen years. She was a lifetime member of American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 298 of Marion and Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion.
Jean enjoyed handi-work and quilting with her church group. She volunteered at the Abbe Center. She will be remembered for her chocolate chip cookies and potato salad, which were second to none. Jean loved her family and friends, and especially adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
